2. What Will You Actually Do? (The Daily Work)
If you secure this job, you will work at the IBPS headquarters in Mumbai. Your core responsibility is deeply tied to the accuracy of banking exams.
You will translate highly confidential exam questions from English to Hindi (and vice-versa). Because these are banking exams, the translation must be flawless. If an English question asks about “Compound Interest,” you must ensure the Hindi translation perfectly reflects the mathematical concept without confusing the student. You will also develop objective and descriptive language tests to check the Hindi proficiency of future bank employees.
What is a “Service Bond”? (Explained Simply)
Government organizations invest time and money into training their officials. To ensure employee retention, IBPS requires a Service Bond.
The ₹2 Lakh Bond Rule
At the time of joining, you must sign an agreement stating you will work at IBPS for a minimum of 3 years.
If you stay for 3 years or more, the bond obligations are met. However, if you resign and leave the job before those 3 years are completed, you will have to pay a penalty of ₹2 Lakhs to IBPS. This is standard practice in premier banking institutions to ensure stability.
3. Eligibility Rules: Can You Apply?
This job requires highly specific educational backgrounds. Let’s break down the age limits and the confusing degree requirements into simple points.
Age Limit: You must be between 23 and 30 years old as of 01.09.2026. This means you must have been born between 02.09.1996 and 01.09.2003.
Educational Qualification Pathways
To be eligible, candidates must match ONE of these four educational paths:
- 1. A Master’s in Hindi AND studied English as a main subject during Graduation.
- 2. A Master’s in English AND studied Hindi as a main subject during Graduation.
- 3. A Master’s in a different subject, but studied Hindi as a main subject in Graduation AND wrote the degree exams in English.
- 4. A Master’s in a different subject, but studied English as a main subject in Graduation AND wrote the degree exams in Hindi.
Crucial Note: Your degrees must be from a regular recognized university. Distance education or correspondence degrees are not acceptable for this post.
Experience Required:
- → Having 1 Year of experience translating from English to Hindi (and vice-versa) in a bank or financial institution is highly desirable.
- → You MUST know how to independently type Hindi and English on MS Word and MS Excel on a computer.
- → If you know how to use Modern AI-based translation tools, it is considered a huge bonus (added qualification).
4. Selection Process & Exam Pattern
Because this is a permanent Grade E officer post, the selection process is rigorous. It involves multiple tiers: an Online Examination, followed by a Skill Test & Item Writing Exercise, Group Exercises, and finally a Personal Interview.
Tier 1: The Online Examination Structure
| Name of the Section | No. of Questions | Maximum Marks | Time Allotted | Language |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Reasoning | 50 | 25 | 35 minutes | English |
| 2. English Language | 50 | 50 | 35 minutes | English |
| 3. General Awareness | 50 | 50 | 20 minutes | English |
| 4. Hindi Language | 50 | 75 | 50 minutes | Hindi |
| Total | 200 | 200 | 140 minutes | – |
Exam Strategy Insights
A crucial detail from the exam pattern is that the Hindi Language section consists of 50 questions but is worth 75 Marks. This gives Hindi the highest weightage in the entire examination.
Additionally, there is a Negative Marking Penalty. For every wrong answer, 0.25 marks (one-fourth) will be deducted from the total score. Skipping a question incurs no penalty. Focus heavily on mastering Hindi grammar and translation rules without blind guessing.
What Happens After the Online Exam?
If you pass the cut-off scores in the online exam, you will be called to Mumbai for the final rounds. You will face a Skill Test & Item Writing Exercise where you will actually have to translate documents and type them in Hindi/English on a computer to prove your skills. Finally, there will be Group Exercises and a Personal Interview to assess your overall fit for the organization.
